Remote Desktop: Connect to Another Computer (Windows 7)


NOTE: In order to connect to an on-campus estimator, yous must first log into the LSU VPN. For more than information run across VPN: LSU Overview

Pace 1 - On the Reckoner That You Plan ToCONNECT TO :

These steps let for Remote Access to a specific Windows 7 Computer.  This is typically your Office Computer, however it could also be a server or other departmental resource.

i. Open the Control Panel: Start | Command Panel .

2. Click System and Security.

3. Click Allow Remote Access.

4. Under the Remote Tab:

  • Select "Allow Remote Assistance connections to this computer".

  • Select "Permit connections merely from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication (more secure)".

5. Click Select Users.

Select Users button.

  • ClickAdd together.

Add Remote Desktop User button.

  • Enter yourmyLSU ID and click OK when finished.

Select Users or Groups dialog box.

6. Under the Estimator Name Tab:  Make a notation of the [Full Computer Name].

Footstep 2 -- Remotely Connect toAnother Reckoner

1. Click Showtime and search forRemote Desktop Connection.

2. Enter the Full Figurer Name you noted in Step 6, and click Connect. You may need to enter a username and countersign depending on the access credentials that are required by the other user or the other computer.

iii. To Disconnect:  Click Start |Log Off.This volition log you out of the remote computer.

Note:If you have problems connecting to the remote estimator, double-bank check the full reckoner name. If this is right, you lot might need to alter your firewall connexion. To do this, open the Control Panel and select Windows Firewall. Make certain that nether General, the box that reads "Don't allow exceptions" is not checked, and that under Exceptio ns, Remote Desktop is selected.

Configure the Firewall Settings

If the Firewall is Enabled, it needs to have Remote Desktop Exception Enabled.

1. Click Start | Control Panel.

iv. Click Permit a program or characteristic through Windows Firewall.

5. Scroll through the list of programs and features until y'all discover Remote Desktop.Bank check the box markedRemote Desktop and both boxes to the left field.
